My Top 5 Not-So Boring Hobbies
If you’re active in the blogging community you know that ProBlogger Darren Rose is hosting another community writing project. This will be my first ever entry into any of his writing projects and I have to admit I’m pretty excited. It’s appropriately titled My Top 5 Not-So Boring Hobbies. These are top hobbies that I have actively pursued in the last 10 years and have found to be the most rewarding or adrenaline pumping. If you’ve got a hobby you’re particularly proud of, I would love to hear about it in the comments or via a trackback. Without further adeu…
#5. Paintball
For a new paintball player, fear is your biggest adversary. Everyone on the field is telling you just how bad it’s going to hurt and how purple the bruise will be on your neck. So now you’re out in the woods hunkered down in the woods waiting for the ‘bad guys’ to come traipsing through the tree line just ahead of you. Since you’re so scared of getting shot you’ve made sure no one has come over the top of the tree line, but what you failed to realized is that same fear has cause a severe case of tunnel vision, and you end up taking several rounds square on your back. If you’ve never played paintball, you absolutely must get suited up and feel the pain! Just remember with that pain comes the satisfaction of delivering that fatal blow
#4. Saltwater Aquarium
2 years ago I setup my first saltwater aquarium. I’ve had freshwater aquariums while growing up, and always wanted to try out a saltwater tank. I learned a ton about fish tanks and all the cool stuff you can keep in this little ecosystem. Crabs, shrimp, snails, and all different types of fish. My kids absolutely loved learning all about what was going on in the tank.
#3. Poker
I played Texas Hold’em online for about 2 years. I won a couple grand with which I funded one of my favorite newest hobbies, photography. Then I won a trip to the WSOP in Las Vegas. I ended up finishing in the middle of the pack after playing for about 6 hours. One thing to remember about poker is when you’ve got a ton of cash on the table there is a major rush that is extremely addictive. I maintain a strict “addicted to nothing” policy in my life so I had to give it up.
#2. Shark Fishing
Millions of people visit the beaches every year. Absolutely none of them realize that there in knee deep water, lurks the ocean’s top predator. If you have any interest in my greatest shark fishing tale read about the one that didn’t get away. If you’re ready to hook up with a big shark next time you visit the beach check out my shark fishing guide.
#1. Motorcycles
0 to 60 in under 3 seconds. Need I say more? I bought a Honda CBR F4 and tore up the twisties for a couple years. I guess that’s not totally true, since in Florida we don’t have twisties and even if we did I didn’t have the chickenbag to tear them up. It takes a lot of commitment to put a bike on the last half inch of rubber to rip around a turn at 60…70…80 mph. I just couldn’t handle it. However, acceleration is what I rode for. Every time I got on my bike though I would hit 100+ mph and on one particular trip I held on to a breathe taking 135+ mph ride.
The only thing that has rivaled this experience was my ride in a twin turbo cobra.
There you have it! The top hobbies that keep me from getting bored

Eh, not too sure about the Saltwater Aquarium but Paintballing is definitely fun.
btw, great design!
Shark fishing has to be the coolest hobby ever, I’d never be brave enough to try it & I live in Utah so it’s not really an issue, but I will wish I could just once once reply “shark fishing’ when someone asks me what I do for fun.
Awww shucks. All your hobbies really does sound like fun! Personally, I havent tried any of them yet, although I would like to try my hand on paintball.
I dont consider myself a boring person but my hobbies are a little common. And I am really proud of it. Well it really doesnt matter if your hobbies are boring or not as long as you enjoy what you are doing.

Karlo: You’re absolutely right. Your hobbies may be common but as long as you can relax and get a break from this monotonous life, you’re on the right track.
I’m really glad you guys like the template. I haven’t gotten too much feedback on it so it’s good to see some new readers appreciate it.
Thanks for the comments!
As the needle bounced on 200kph, my eyes bugged out so far I’m sure the only thing that kept in my head was the visor. Motorcycling is never boring, especially with a lean Italian thoroughbred (Ducati) to ride the local hills.
I guess pipe smoking is not in the top 5 yet. What number would you give it?
I was skeptical when I went paintballing with a group of co workers, but it really was a blast!
And the paint pellets don’t really hurt that much unless everyone on both teams gangs up on one guy! He He.
Sshhhhhhhhhh. Don’t tell them it doesn’t hurt. Then they won’t have the fear of God in them when they get out there. I’ll tell you getting grazed doesn’t hurt, but if you take one square in the chest or back, it’s not something that exactly feels good
Rehuel, I don’t actually pipe smoke yet. I’m doing my research now on what I’m going to buy and documenting it as I go. When I finish the guide then I’m going to make my purchase and start posting my experiences and adding to the guide.
I want to go shark fishing…..now.
how dare you say you jerk
Hi
Nice top 5
Sounds like you know how to enjoy your hobbies. Good luck to you
Thanks
Tom
Great Top 5! Goes to show what variety in hobbies there are out there! I’ll take the motorcycling… got my license a couple years ago, and have been drooling over V-Stars ever since–there was one parked outside my office when I left yesterday! I won’t say I was tempted…
Stop by and check out my Top 5…
Martial arts is a very rewarding hobby.
Cool. There’s some nice diversity there. I like photography too, and I don’t mind some casual poker, although I don’t think it counts as a hobby. Like the comment above, I do martial arts, well one of them anyway - karate. What mainly comes to mind is 3D modelling, I’ve been experimenting with that recently - Blender, Cinema 4D, Art of Illusion and I just installed Autodesk Maya to see what that one is like. I’m hoping to find a program that I prefer and then do some design stuff in that.
Nice blog, I hope to return
