Shark Fishing Video: Don’t Be Stupid
A good friend of mine, the one who paddled out my shark bait on his surfboard, sent me this shark fishing video of a couple kids who thought it would be a good idea to land a 6 foot blacktip without the proper gear. Check this out.
These guys are obviously adrenaline junkies and that's why this shark fishing trip turned out the way it did. They made two critical mistakes. The first was not wearing a life vest when they jumped on the kayak to hookup with the shark. The second was obviously under estimating the flexiblity and stamina of a shark. Pulling the hook out of their mouth pisses them off more than anything so it's no surprise he got bit. If you don't have the proper tools to pull a hook out just cut it and let him go. Hooks will rust out in no time leaving the shark and your hand in perfect condition.

Yeah, he’s lucky he didn’t lose his whole hand! I’m reminded of this phrase, “Stupid is as stupid does.”
Those guys are complete idiots and create a bad image for the sport.

If you want to use pliers, I would suggest buying 16in pliers. Have one person hold the mouth of the shark open and another person take the hook out with the pliers.
Here is a video showing one way to take hooks outs (Warning!, Don’t do it this way unless you are familiar with a sharks movements, this can be very dangerous if not done properly!)
