Painting Mona Lisa

Mona LisaThe Mona Lisa is by far the most famous painting on the planet. There is no doubt that the majority of people have seen this painting at some point in their life, but how many people know who painted it? For those of you that don’t know Leonardo da Vinci painted this picture in the early 1500s. I decided to post on this painting after I saw a very impressive video of a gentleman who used Microsoft Paint to replicate the picture. I also asked a couple friends if they knew who painted the Mona Lisa and surprisingly not very many people knew. Once again Leonardo da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa. Don’t forget it! It’s just one of those things you need to know.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for all your artsy folks out there. I have a rough time drawing my daughter a picture of a dog. It usually turns out to look like some prehistoric prepubescent blob with a tail. Yet this guy can sit down with the absolute worst graphics package and whip out an impressive replica in only 2.5 hours. It only took Leonardo da Vinci around 4 years to paint the Mona Lisa.

So what do you think the Mona Lisa is worth in 2006 $$$ ? I was gonna run a little contest but it’s just to easy to cheat. The Mona Lisa is worth a mere $600,000,000! No one who reads this blog can comprehend that amount of money, so we’ll just leave it at that. Without further adieu here is the 5 minute video of a guy spending 2.5 hours painting the Mona Lisa.

So what do you think this .bmp is worth?

The only thing I can draw in Paint is a circle. That guy is something else. I just showed it to my kids and they were saying “no way”
