A Day On Venice Beach aka Muscle Beach

With the weekend to myself I decided to spend the day on the beach. California beaches are some of the best around due to the great weather and excellent park services. Last year I watched a surf competition on Manhattan beach which was pretty sweet. Turned out it was a celebrity surfing competition but the only celeb I knew was Brandon Boyd, the lead singer of Incubus. The highlight of the whole event was when this famous surfer dude shot the peir as he was riding the wave in. Pretty impressive stuff. Anyways I decided to check out Venice Beach this time around.

Venice beach is also known as Muscle Beach. Basically there is a huge workout facility right along side the beach where some huge muscle freaks work out. Today there were only 2 dudes that were semi-muscle freaks but certainly worth checking out. I then spent the next 2 hours walking the boardwalk where merchants, psychics, tattoo parlors, and street entertianers have setup shop.

Check this out. These 5 guys from the carabean somewhere were performing acrobatics. They mixed in some comedy, no drugs, cigarettes, or acohol propaganda for the kids and finished off the performance with this dude jumping over 10 people. I had the Rebel Xt in rapid fire mode and missed the flip between pictures 2 and 3. This guy had to have a 40″ verital leap. They also mentioned they are going to be on “Americas Got Talent” on Tuesday at 8 p.m.

All in all Venice beach was a cool spot to check out. I would recommend you give muscle beach a visit if your in the Los Angeles area. One thing to keep in mind is bring cash. I’ve been spoiled that every merchant accepts credit cards, but not here in Venice beach. Everyone wants cold hard cash.

Kind of hard to tell, but did that guy just run, jump, flip once, and land right over those people? Geez-louise! Give that man a cape!

Yah. I was disappointed my Rebel Xt didn’t capture more frames per second but this guy was running 15-20 mph when he jumped. Right after the second picture he flipped once and barely missed smashing the guy on the end. Pretty crazy.
