In regards to cost. We have found some pretty good tents for under $100. We went camping with my son's boy scout troop and it POURED and it was Windy. The tent that held up the best was the cheap ozark trail tent from walmart. The cheap clearnace coleman tents came in second. The most expensive tent from REI leaked like crazy, we had to constantly re-attach the fly, etc.

So price isn't everything :)

In regards to cost I think a quality tent is one of the best values you can get for a vacation. If you think about how much it costs to stay a single night in a hotel a tent is a steal. I've definitely seen an increase in people talking about buying larger tents too. It seems that they're replacing their big SUV's with big tents.
