this website is so cool owning a snake is my dream since i was 3years old all my books are about snakes ilove my pet cornsnake its bloodred its 13 feet and has 19 eggs i called it viper.

Hello Nicole, this is Matt from exoticreptiles.org. Congrats on your new snake. No your snake does not hate you. Snakes will “flick” their tongues constantly, they use their tongues to see and smell. When you buy a snake from a store there is a good chance it was never handled until you bought it. You just have to continue to handle it everyday and it will calm down when it gets used to you and being handled. Staring at it will do nothing. As ar as dropping it, use the hand over hand method. Okay so. . .

I just got a snake for Christmas.

My parents are not big on them at all.

But since they love me oh-so-much, they got me a little Ribbon Snake.

I think it hates me. ):

It flicks it’s tongue at me a lot.

Mean snake.

And squirms WAY too much that it makes me drop it sometimes.

How do I get it to like me? ):

Someone said stare at it. . . o-o

Agree with Tiffany. All animals are or were at one point wild. Snake’s are no different than any other in that regard. And like she says proper knowledge BEFORE you make a purchase of a snake is paramount. With an animal that lives for decades and can (in some cases) get very large you best be prepared.

Nice article, btw. Good introduction to snakes as pets for people who don’t know much about them and have trouble seeing any benefits.

Dogs were once wild animals too. Have you ever owned one of them or should they remain undomesticated too. Not trying to be an @$$ but if taken care of properly and the proper knowledge is obtained before you purchase then snakes can make a great pet.

This is quite shocking! A lot of people get pet snakes and then they let them loose because they cannot take care of them once they grow! Or they simply get disgusted by the snake’s feeding habits!

Wild animals should not be domesticated! They are wild and they should be kept in the wild.
