Tesla Coils are Cool!

Ever since college I’ve wanted to build myself a toy, but not just any toy. I want a Tesla Coil.

Check this out:

Who wouldn’t want several hundred thousand volts of electricity bouncing all around?

Yah, pipe smoking and shark fishing are cool not to mention my other 4 Not-So Boring Hobbies, but I think I’ll have to add 1 more thing to my list of things I’ll do before I die.

WordPress Theme: Field of Dreams

Please note: The Field of Dreams theme is no longer being distributed. If you are utilizing the field of dreams theme please ensure all footer links are removed as these are in direct violation of Google’s quality policies. If you need help removing these links please contact me.

Field of Dreams is 2 column, widget ready, and completely free WordPress Theme provided exclusively by Not-So Boring Life. Back in March when I started Not-So Boring Life there was a lot of buzz how great designing a custom theme is for promoting your blog. I’ve spent the last 4 months designing, tweaking and optimizing this custom theme for public release and now it’s ready for prime time. The majority of the bugs should be worked out but if you happen to find any please post a comment describing your issue.

Free Photoshop Source File!!!

If you want the photoshop source file for this theme – email me. As with anything it’s not absolutely free. I want a link back. Perhaps this is a little easier than the $5 donation I was asking for. Additionally there is another very large benefit for dropping some link love my way, but I’m not posting it here, so EMAIL ME!

Making Money from Your Hobbies

Kite Flying as a Hobby

Looking for hobbies that make money? Take a second to think just how much money is circulating in todays society? It’s easily into the trillions of dollars with people buying things for every reason under the sun. With that much money and people willing to spend it why not use your hobby to make money? I’ve sold Hotman tankless water heaters on Ebay, virtual real estate on some server in silicone valley, started an almost successful web hosting business, and made money playing poker online. Just make sure you have a good accounting program, perhaps even a few free tax calculators, as the IRS will be watching.

Blogging is my latest hobby started mainly to document all the hobbies that have captured my attention over the years. Instead of capturing hobbies like shark fishing and pipe smoking in a personal journal I’ve decided to make it public on the internet in order to generate a bit of web traffic. This type of web traffic should eventually grow into a steady stream of income which is a great added benefit to this new hobby.

Tips for finding hobbies that make money.

Find a hobby you love.

If you’ve got a hobby that you love find a way to make money from it. If you’re looking for a hobby don’t pick a hobby you think you can make money from. It’s absolutely vital that you find a hobby that you are passionate about and that you enjoy spending time pursuing. Making a side income should only come as a secondary priority.

Think outside the box.

Sometimes to make money from your hobby you have to think outside the box. Find a way to market your hobby to the public or information that you’ve found particularly helpful. Thats the foundation that this site is built on. I spent tons of time shark fishing and have learned the ins and outs of this crazy sport, so why not pass that info onto the next generation of shark fisherman? The same thing goes for your hobby.

Take your carvings, walking sticks, or teddy bears to the flea market. See if you can sell a couple here and there. My grandmother, who is 85 years old, loves to sew. She marketed her skills to a local custom boutique and now works for 10-15 hours a week doing something she absolutely loves.

Give it time.

Unless you are gifted there is a good chance your hobby won’t make money starting out. You need to develop your skills and experience level before you’re able to market your hobby to the world and expect to make money from it. Enjoy the hobby, if you make money from it so be it, if not your time was spent doing something you love.
